How 'Star Wars' Fans Can Celebrate May the 4th With Their Dogs

Rejoice! It’s every “Star Wars” fan's favorite holiday – May the 4th! Even though my dog thinks I’m a major nerd for enjoying the “Star Wars” franchise, not every canine companion may feel the same. In fact, some furry friends may want to celebrate with their sci-fi-loving owners.

Here are some simple ways you can celebrate May the 4th with your canine companion.

Have a ‘Star Wars’ Movie Marathon

The easiest way to celebrate May the 4th is to have a “Star Wars” movie marathon! Your furry friend will love that you are spending time curled up on the couch beside them. And you’ll love that you can talk your dog’s ear off about every behind-the-scenes “Star Wars” fact you know without interruption (besides an occasional bark).

Make Festive Treats

Of course, you’ll need snacks for your “Star Wars” movie marathon. For you and the other humans accompanying you, you can make some treats inspired by the movies. We’re talking blue milk, Lightsaber churros, and Princess Leia Oreo Truffles. Now, for your furry friend, you can make some canine-friendly no-bake treats in the likeness of your favorite Rebels or members of the Empire by using some “Star Wars” molds

Give Your Dog Some ‘Star Wars’ Merch

I don’t know a single dog who would turn down a new toy. Thankfully, for your furry friend, there are plenty of “Star Wars”-themed dog toys you can choose from. For instance, your dog can chew on the Millennium Falcon or play fetch with Jabba the Hutt.

Have a Photoshoot

If your dog is a fan of dress-up, consider having a “Star Wars-themed photoshoot. The obvious choice is dressing your dog up as any of the Ewoks. However, you can also use your own dynamic with your dog when dressing up for the photoshoot. For instance, if you have a complicated father-son relationship, you could go as Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. If you are besties who love a good adventure (and one of you owes a life debt to each other), consider dressing like Han Solo and Chewbacca.

Learn the History of the Dogs of ‘Star Wars

You might have figured Chewie was based on a dog due to his furriness and loyalty. During the 2017 Star Wars celebration, George Lucas shared that his canine companion, Indiana Jones, was the inspiration for the beloved character.

"I had a large dog named Indiana. A Malamute, an Alaskan Malamute, and he would ride around in the car, in the front seat. Not driving. I loved that image. When he sat in the car, he was bigger than I was. That's where I said, 'That would be a fun character for Star Wars,'" explained Lucas.

In addition, Screenrant reported Lucas created the Ewoks with Brussels Griffons in mind.
